Plan to create four other provinces in Papua Island

Five Provinces based on Seven Indigenous Terrotory Papua

In January 2008, Indonesia’s House of Representatives endorsed its own plan to create four other provinces in West Papua. It would exclude the province of Papua, so there would be a total number of five provinces namely (1) Papua, (2) West Papua, (3) Southwest Papua, (4) Central Papua, and (5) South Papua. However, President Yudhoyono has postponed (not cancelled) the formation of these new provinces.

Those ideas at that time boosted by seven Papuan tribal willing from Papua territory namely Saireri, Mamta, La Pago, Me Pago, Ha Anim, Domberai and Momberai whom strongly reject the existence of the anti-development in Papua, such as West Papua National Committee (KNPB) and the United Liberation of Movement West Papua (ULMWP).
